  • CLDS: A LD awareness week indicated high % of clients were overweight and at risk of type 2 diabetes
  • Most clients accessed a Day Centre. Services available did not meet health and wellbeing needs
  • Some clients had attended a local Gym with minimal support but lost motivation
  • Primary care for individual needs

What is being accessed now?

  • Red Sun CrossFit adapted fitness programme twice weekly with 1:1 Coaching and support for 6 months
  • Weekly weigh ins
  • Independent Nutritionist
  • Pedometer assessment’s
  • Body fat measurements
  • Support from CLDS staff and volunteers
  • CrossFit support

What has this achieved?

  • Individual weight loss: Biggest loss to date is 6kg
  • Improved health outcomes
  • Body fat reduction, improved agility
  • Risk reduction of type 2 diabetes
  • Reduction in Primary Care usage
  • Understanding and continued learning of nutritional needs including portion size and food labelling. Measuring utensils provided
  • Motivation, teamwork and improved concentration during training
