People who need to see a GP in Tower Hamlets can book appointments on weekday evenings, weekends and bank holidays, including Christmas day, this winter.
The NHS in Tower Hamlets is working with patients to offer a service that works for them, when they need it. There is no need to sit around in hospital waiting rooms for hours or wait weeks for appointments for non-urgent issues. You can get help, support and advice 24 hours a day from your GP surgery or NHS 111 – by phone or online – in an easy, instant way.
Appointments are available every weekday and weekend at our GP access hubs between 8am and 8pm. These appointments can be booked by calling your own GP practice as usual during working hours or by calling NHS 111.
If you need medical help fast and your surgery is closed, you can call the NHS 111 Clinical Assessment service on 1 1 1 at any time of day or night, or visit https://111.nhs.uk.
GPs, nurses and pharmacists can provide high-quality assessments, advice and treatment over the phone. They can also book you an appointment with the most appropriate NHS service if you need one, or prescribe medicines over the phone.
It is much better for people whose condition is not urgent to use these instant services to see a GP or another health professional than to visit A&E. By doing this you will have a much better experience and be seen quickly, with no waiting around, while allowing specialist hospital based emergency teams to focus on people who need emergency, life-saving care.
Dr Sam Everington, a local GP and Chair of NHS Tower Hamlets Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), said: “We have evolved our services as people’s lives have changed. Increasingly busy lives mean we have to reflect that in what we offer to our patients and we want people to be able to access urgent help 24 hours a day from their phone or smartphone through NHS 111. At the same time we want our hospitals to focus on life-saving emergencies.
